One of the most beautiful things can happen in life is to have a baby, isn’t it? Uhm… I know what you’re thinking and the answer is no! I’m not having a baby! (not yet!).
But I actually have some friends who are are giving birth in the next days/months! My best wishes for them!
Some weeks ago, I received a call from an acquaintance who gave me amazingly great news: she and her husband were going to have a baby! Those were very happy news! And they wanted to celebrate it with some ready for the occasion cupcakes.
As they didn’t know the baby’s sex yet, I made both pink and blue cupcakes (half and half).
I made vanilla cupcakes, as most people like them. It’s easy to be right with this flavour when you don’t know all people’s preferences! I spread some coloured vanilla buttercream onto each cupcake by means of a small palette knife. I got that colours with “pink” and “sky blue” Wilton colourings.
I got my inspiration from the cake decorator Marcela Capó in order to make some of these cute sugar figures. They were made with coloured gum paste. Bibs, dummies, bottles… Everything was edible, but the ribbon of the bibs and… the paper liners, of course!!!!
Regarding to the paper liners, I had a bad experience with the first ones I used for this order. They had a nice pattern (little yellow ducks) but they weren’t greaseproof and the paper liners lost their original colour once the cupcakes baked. I had to bake them again. But in that occasion, I used both pink and blue high quality paper liners, totally greaseproof. The result was far much better!
Personally I loved to make these cupcakes, specially the bibs. I made one bib at a time because gum paste dries really fast. I rolled out some gum paste very thinly, almost as thin as a paper sheet. Then I cut a circle with a round pastry cutter. I quickly placed it onto a foam pad and made the ruffles by rolling a toothpick over the edges gently. I also painted small details on each bib by means of a thin brush. Once the bibs completely dried, I tied nice ribbons.
Finally, I added a nice and crispy touch by placing some shimmer sugar pearls.
They were really happy with the end result. She told me that people who tried them said that it was a pity to eat them because they were so cute… haha. It usually happens, isn’t it?
Have a nice week!
