I made this cake yesterday, with a fondant handmade Minnie Mouse topper and deliciously covered in vanilla buttercream. I mentioned it before, I love that combination: buttercream cakes with a fondant topper. That way, you can enjoy the prettiness of a cute character and the taste of a lovely buttercream cake.
Personally, I love modelling but also working with smooth frostings and I find it the perfect way to match both passions!
This was my Easter project this week, an adorable picnic of bunnies made out of fondant. What a cute family! Mummy bunny and siblings are enjoying a little picnic whilst the baby bunnies peacefully sleep at the back. My aim was modelling everything by hand without using cutters. The Easter eggs were ready made, though (mini Cadbury ones).
Last month of January I made this two-tier animal cake for my son’s first birthday and all his NCT friends. The cake was divided into three parts: the top tier, a farm; the front of the bottom tier, a jungle; the back of the bottom tier, an under the sea scene.
I had so much fun designing all the details and modelling the cute characters.
How beautiful and delicate is this cake style? It feels like being in a fairy woodland, somehow magic… Sometimes the simplest and most natural looking things are the most special! That semi-naked effect of the chocolate cake going through the thin and random layers of buttercream… Those little piped leaves… Nur made a wonderful choice for her daughter’s first birthday.
The deers were made out of fondant, trying to give them an appearance of wooden figures (Ostheimer and Holztiger make amazing wooden animals!). The flavour of the cake was chocolate and rum -girl’s dad favourite flavour -. I’m personally not a fan of rum, but honestly that combination worked so well and even I enjoyed it!
Last month of December I made this adorable semi-naked cake for Victoria’s daughter baptism. A handmade sugar topper of the little girl wearing her baptism outfit was placed on top of it, as well as some delicious berries dusted in icing sugar scattered around the cake.
Semi-naked cakes started to be very popular a few years ago and they never seem to stop being on trend. I honestly love the rustic/vintage look of them, whether they’re decorated with fresh flowers or tasty berries, seasonal fruit…
I can’t believe I started my blog in 2012. In June it’ll be eight years already! Time flies. I started with a lot of effort and enthusiasm. However, when I got pregnant two years ago, my life became sooo busy in so many ways that I couldn’t continue updating my so much loved blog. Before starting uploading new cakes recently (now that I feel I can have more time for myself), I thought about changing my professional name, not being acup4mycake anymore. But actually, there’s so much history behind it and so many years of learning and effort, that I felt I couldn’t change it. I will continue with what I willingly started one day many years ago…
During my maternity I’ve met many wonderful mothers and other people who have encouraged me to continue with my cake decorating ideas and plans. I’m so grateful for all that support.
Last year, I made a cake for one of these mums, who relied on me to make something very special for her daughter’s first birthday.
Many people, like me, don’t like eating fondant (and I say eating because I love working with it, specially modelling characters). The perfect alternative to this preference, as well as to having a beautiful decorated cake, is to make a delicious buttercream cake with fondant models on top, which you can keep as a decoration for few months, even years -if well kept-. This woodland cake is a nice example to that.

It’s been a loooong while since I haven’t posted anything! My personal life’s been very busy and unfortunately I haven’t been able to focus on the blog at all. Now I have a beautiful cheeky monkey who will steal most of my time -happy about it, no doubt!- but I’ll try to do my best to keep the blog going with new cakes.
This is a Paddington bear cake I made some time ago. The cake itself was covered in yellow buttercream, ideal for those of you who don’t like fondant. The bear and the side decorations were made out sugarpaste. The good thing about this combination, is that you can enjoy a tasty buttercream cake being able to keep the model for a long time to decorate your kid’s room, etc.
