Making a 2D fondant dinosaur against the same cake, hugely helps to support the dinosaur -rather than completely 3D, which structure would be more difficult to make, specially if you’re a begginer-. And then those little cute Minions sitting on the actual cake instead of the real dino (also really helps for the whole thing to be sturdier and more secure!).
Unicorns are very popular recently and I realised about this tendency due to the important increase in cake orders with this topic. Last week I made this playful unicorn cake for a little 6 year old girl. I heard she was so happy with it so am I!
Everything was made out of sugarpaste so it was completely edible if desired. The unicorn couldn’t wait and it started to lick the rainbow, lol.
I just love loooooove making novelty cakes for children. Anything childish or colourful makes my day! Also, I learn many things about TV shows and films that I had no idea they existed! Like this Jake and the Neverland Pirates. I didn’t know who he was until I had to make his first cake!
Beauty and the Beast was one of my favourite Disney’s films when I was a kid. Since then, I’ve watched it countless times… And of course, I recently went to watch the new cinema version, which I really really loved!! Anyway, my cake is based on the cartoon movie from the 90′s.
Belle’s details (dress and roses) are fully made from buttercream and the Beast’s ones (horns and bow), out of fondant -with cmc-. There are several ways to pipe buttercream ruffles but I decided to use a leaf nozzle, piping from bottom to top. The roses are simple rosettes piped with a large open star tip.
It’s been a while since I made this cake (one month ago??) but I always overcome my laziness and end up posting some of my work This cake design was for Vittoria, a little girl who loves Hotel Transylvania films.
If you’d like to make this cake at home, my advice is: don’t try to dye your fondant with black food colouring or you’ll end up with a big grey mess. Instead, the best option is to buy a premade one in the store (ready to use black fondant).
The tittle of this post may sound a little weird. But this is what happened: I received a request about a cake showing three themes at the same time. The birthday boy loved football, swimming and he’d just got a new Iphone as a present. So it had to contain the three things! Difficult combination, I know, but I had so much fun designing it!
Now that I look at the cake again, I would have changed small things, like making more detailed footballs and a more straight number one (the one on the right looks a bit wobbly, lol).
